About this unit
How to work through it
- Trace shapes on paper for transformations, label preimage and image.
- Know rules for reflections, rotations, translations on the coordinate plane.
- Similar figures: corresponding angles equal, sides proportional.
- Scale factor multiplies lengths; area scales by factor squared.
- Use patty paper or tracing for Topic 1 if visualizing is hard.
You should be able to
- Perform and describe rigid transformations on the coordinate plane.
- Identify congruent and similar figures.
- Use scale factors with similar figures.
- Apply transformations to solve problems.
Key words
- Rigid transformation
- A move that keeps size and shape: translation, reflection, or rotation.
- Dilation
- A transformation that resizes a figure by a scale factor.
- Similar figures
- Same shape, possibly different size; angles equal and sides proportional.
- Transversal
- A line that crosses two or more other lines.
