About this unit

How to work through it

  1. Sketch diagrams for scale drawings and label corresponding sides.
  2. Write angle relationships (supplementary, vertical, adjacent) on your diagram.
  3. Memorize circle formulas C = 2πr and A = πr² with a labeled circle drawing.
  4. For volume, write the formula first, then substitute.
  5. Review 3-D vocabulary: face, edge, vertex, prism, pyramid.

You should be able to

  • Solve problems with scale drawings and similar figures.
  • Find missing angles using angle relationships.
  • Calculate circumference and area of circles.
  • Find volume and surface area of prisms, pyramids, and composite solids.

Key words

Scale factor
The ratio that compares a scale drawing to the real object.
Complementary angles
Two angles whose measures add to 90°.
Supplementary angles
Two angles whose measures add to 180°.
Circumference
The distance around a circle: C = πd.
