About this unit
How to work through it
- Write the sample space before computing probability.
- For compound events, list outcomes systematically or use the multiplication rule when independent.
- Probability is between 0 and 1, check answers make sense.
- Simulate with dice/coins if a problem feels abstract.
- Finish both topics and retake quizzes until comfortable.
You should be able to
- Find theoretical probability of simple events.
- List sample spaces for compound events.
- Determine whether events are independent.
- Solve simple compound probability problems.
Key words
- Probability
- A number from 0 (impossible) to 1 (certain) describing how likely an event is.
- Outcome
- A single possible result of a trial.
- Theoretical probability
- Favorable outcomes ÷ total possible outcomes.
- Compound event
- An event made of two or more simple events.
